Yes, I know its a little late for Halloween, but here are 5 spooky story skeletons for last-minute story telling. Practice, share, rinse and repeat.

Last week, I gave a keynote in front of 120 students in Paris on how to put storytelling into action. We had a great session, and what I shared was a simple and memorable way to tell meaningful stories quickly, even under pressure.

In our careers, when we try to connect with people around truth and trust, one thing matters above all. The ability to share experiences in a way that resonates. It has never been more important to speak with clarity, presence and authenticity. This is how trust forms and how it endures.

Most people do not struggle because they lack stories. They struggle because they lack a simple structure to organise them. Everyone says storytelling matters, but almost no one actually practises it. And here is the uncomfortable truth.

A story without structure is forgettable. Sometimes it is even unbearable.

Structure is not decoration. It is the spine that makes a story worth listening to.

Once you give people a story frame, the voice follows.

Here are five story skeletons you can use to shape almost any anecdote. Each one helps you reveal the moment, the tension and the insight a story carries without overthinking.`

1. The Triple C: Leadership Moments

Challenge, Choice, Change. What truth or dilemma appeared? What decision did you make and why? What changed because of that choice?

Why it works: short, focused and perfect for moments that hinge on agency or courage. Ideal when trust is tested.

2. The Inner Battle: Vulnerability with Purpose

Hook, Struggle, LessonStart with a moment that catches attention. Then share the emotional conflict and end with what the experience taught you.

Why it works: honest, simple and powerful for exploring self-awareness or integrity. It requires courage because you are sharing something true and exposing yourself.

3. The Light Switch: The Moment of Clarity

Context, Conflict, Clarity. Where were you? What happened? What realisation followed?

Why it works: anchored in reality. It moves cleanly from confusion to clarity. The arc of trust in action.

4. The SAI: Business Friendly and Universal

Situation, Action, Impact. What was happening? What did you do? What changed because of it?

Why it works: universal structure used in business everywhere. Clear, efficient and excellent for non native speakers.

5. The Poet: Quiet, Visual, Memorable

Moment, Meaning, Message. Describe a vivid scene. Say why it mattered. Share what you want the listener to remember.

Why it works: intimate and sincere. Perfect for expressing truth with softness and precision.

Try it yourself

Choose one or two skeletons that resonate. Pick an anecdote that means something to you and give yourself permission to play. Record a one-minute version. Listen back. What comes through clearly? What could be more alive?

Storytelling improves the moment you stop chasing performance and start chasing truth.

As you practise, you begin weaving a tapestry of moments. Small, honest, human.Stories that stay with your audience long after you have finished speaking. And the more you share them, the more naturally they become yours.
